C21orf59 یک پروتئین است که در انسان توسط ژن «C21orf59» واقع بر کروموزوم ۲۱ کُدگذاری می‌شود. عملکرد این پروتئین هنوز مشخص نشده‌است و ژن سازندهٔ آن در ناحیهٔ بحرانی نشانگان داون قرار گرفته است.^[۴] این ژن پارالوگ مشخصی در انسان ندارد، اما هومولوگ‌های آن به وفور در جانوران دیگر، قارچ‌ها و جلبک‌ها یافت شده‌است.

اهمیت بالینی

سطوح بالای این پروتئین در مبتلایان به لوسمی حاد مغز استخوان با پیش‌آگهی وخیم و کاریوتیپ غیرطبیعی یافت شده‌است.^[۵]^[۶]^[۷]
در سلول‌های خونی مردان مبتلا به بیماری آلزایمر، بیان ژن C21orf59 کاهش یافته‌است.^[۸]^[۹]
