An aquatint etching of the large naval cutter ‘Greyhound’, which was brought in from the merchant service. She weighed 148 tons and carried a crew of 50 men. The ship originally carried 21 guns, but her firepower was reduced to 12 guns in 1781. She is shown beating into a stiff wind, her deck lined with figures, one of whom is holding a telescope. A large puff of smoke billows from her foremost gun. Another vessel is beating into the wind ahead of her, on the right of the picture. The waves are flecked with foam.
