Usage

The /vowelpair produces a CSS formatted text in a box, to be placed in the IPA vowel trapezoid, see {{IPA vowel chart}}. The position on the trapezoid is "absolute", defined by percentage from Top and Left. /vowelpair organises the interior of that positioned box.

CSS background

/vowelpair has three nested boxes. At the inner (3rd) level, there are thee equal boxes that contain the symbols left-bullet-right.

1. The outer box is positioned by <div> using top: and left: percentage parameters (#4 and #5). Through its fixed width the position can be set for the center point. Positioning from the left onwards would make the bullet-position dependent of the symbol- and fontsize.
2. There are three equal intermediate (2nd level) boxes, one for each symbol. They position each symbol within the outer box, effectively central for the bullet with left and right closing in. They have fixed width, enough to contain a wide symbol, and together fit into the outer box. Positioning is by (outer) <span>.
3. Within each 2nd level box, there is an inline box that actually produces the symbol. The inline settings are done by (inner) <span>.

The background is transparent for levels 1 and 2, the 3rd lever (inner) textboxes are opaque, thereby hiding the background lines of the trapezoid.

Parameter: background=yellow or 6=yellow (unnamed parameter #6)
