This template provides an easy method to link to population statistics for English admistrative counties (also known as shire counties) with a two-tier county council structure. The template is updated from time to time as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) releases new data, thus it should not be necessary to manually update the articles or their references. Counties are identified by passing the country name as a parameter. ONS statistics are produced at district level, the figures in this template have been aggregated from the constituent districts.
The following also apply
- {{United Kingdom district population citation}} – gives a citation for the source of population data
- {{United Kingdom statistics year}} – gives the year to which the estimate applies (not the year it was generated)
